What Is Fresh Chapter? Coaching, Privacy, Pricing

Fresh Chapter Editorial8/10/20267 min read

Fresh Chapter is an all-in wellness platform: verified life coaches, a private peer community, and practical tools for the parts of life that get heavy — stress, burnout, sleep, money, grief, health, relationships, caregiving, separation and co-parenting. This guide explains what the platform actually does, how coach matching works, how your information is protected, what it costs, and how coaching differs from therapy.

TL;DR

  • Fresh Chapter pairs you with a verified life coach and gives you tools (journaling, action plans, scheduling, secure messaging) in one account.
  • Matching uses the focus areas you pick, your language, timezone and availability — you can review the match before booking.
  • Coaching is not therapy or medical care. It is goal- and action-focused support, and it is not a crisis service.
  • Your records are encrypted in transit and at rest, access is role-based, and every access to sensitive records is logged.
  • You can read the blog and browse coaches free; paid plans unlock ongoing coaching sessions.

What Fresh Chapter is

Most people rebuilding after a hard stretch get advice, not structure. Fresh Chapter exists to supply the structure: a coach who knows your situation, a plan you can actually follow week to week, and a community of people going through something similar.

The platform brings together four things that usually live in separate apps:

  • Coaching. Video or messaging sessions with a verified coach, booked against their real availability.
  • Community. Moderated support spaces where you can post anonymously and read others' experiences.
  • Tools. Private journaling, an action plan with next steps, reminders, and shared documents for co-parenting logistics.
  • Continuity. Your notes, plan and history stay in one account, so you are never re-explaining your story from scratch.

Who it helps

Fresh Chapter is built for whole-life wellness, not one narrow niche. People commonly arrive while working through:

  • Burnout, chronic stress and poor sleep
  • Grief and bereavement
  • A health diagnosis, recovery or caregiving load
  • Money pressure, debt or a career reset
  • Relationship strain, separation, divorce and co-parenting
  • Loneliness and rebuilding a social circle after a big change

How coach matching works

Matching is deliberately simple and reviewable.

  1. You describe the situation. During onboarding you pick focus areas (for example: burnout, grief, co-parenting), your preferred language, and the times you can realistically meet.
  2. We score available coaches. Coaches are scored on focus-area overlap, language, timezone fit, current capacity, and — where a coach holds a clinical licence — the jurisdictions they are permitted to practise in.
  3. You see the shortlist. You review coach profiles, experience and approach before anything is booked.
  4. You book a first session. If the fit is wrong, you can request a different coach. Matching is a starting point, not a lock-in.

Coaches are reviewed before they can take clients: identity and credential checks, a profile review, and an activation agreement covering response times and conduct.

Coaching vs therapy

This distinction matters, so it is stated plainly:

  • Coaching is forward-looking and action-focused: goals, habits, boundaries, plans, accountability. Fresh Chapter coaches are not providing diagnosis or treatment.
  • Therapy treats mental-health conditions and is delivered by licensed clinicians under clinical regulation.

Some Fresh Chapter coaches also hold clinical licences; where that applies, their profile says so and their practice is limited to the jurisdictions where they are licensed. If what you need is clinical care, a coach should — and will — say so and help you look for the right kind of support.

Fresh Chapter is not an emergency service. In the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or call 911 in an immediate emergency. Outside the US, use your local emergency number; the International Association for Suicide Prevention maintains a directory of crisis centres by country at https://www.iasp.info/resources/Crisis_Centres/.

Privacy and security, explained plainly

Vague security badges are worse than useless, so here is the actual posture.

Encryption. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256) by our infrastructure providers.

Access control. Your journal entries, session notes and documents are restricted at the database level by row-level security, so records are readable only by the account they belong to and the coach assigned to you. A small number of authorised staff can access records where it is operationally necessary — investigating a support ticket you raise, responding to a security incident, or complying with a legal obligation or a credible safety concern. That access is role-based and logged; it is not routine, and it is not unrestricted.

Audit logging. Access to sensitive records is written to an append-only, tamper-evident audit log. Application roles can insert audit entries but cannot update or delete them, which makes unauthorised changes detectable. We describe this as tamper-evident logging rather than claiming cryptographic immutability.

Session security. Signed-in sessions lock automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity and require re-authentication.

On HIPAA. There is no such thing as a HIPAA certification, and we do not claim one. HIPAA applies to covered entities and their business associates. Fresh Chapter is built to align with the HIPAA Security Rule's administrative, physical and technical safeguards — encryption, access control, audit logging, minimum-necessary access and breach procedures — and we will enter into a Business Associate Agreement where a customer relationship requires one. Coaching that is not healthcare is generally outside HIPAA's scope; we apply the same safeguards regardless. The HHS summary of the HIPAA Security Rule at https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-professionals/security/laws-regulations/index.html sets out the underlying standard, and our Privacy Policy at /privacy covers what we collect and how long we keep it.

What it costs

  • Free: browse coaches, read every article, use the crisis resource pages and the community basics.
  • Paid plans: ongoing coaching sessions, full tool access and priority matching. Current tiers and prices are on the pricing page at /pricing.

Coaches are paid a majority revenue share that rises with experience, plus a bonus for members they bring on and support — the incentive is retention and outcomes, not volume of sign-ups.

FAQ

Is Fresh Chapter therapy?

No. Fresh Chapter provides life coaching, which is goal- and action-focused and does not diagnose or treat mental-health conditions. Some coaches hold clinical licences, noted on their profile.

How is my data protected?

Encryption in transit and at rest, database-level row security so records are scoped to you and your assigned coach, role-based staff access for support and legal obligations, tamper-evident audit logging, and a 15-minute inactivity lockout.

Is Fresh Chapter HIPAA compliant?

We align with the HIPAA Security Rule's safeguards and sign Business Associate Agreements where applicable. No organisation can be "HIPAA certified"; any vendor claiming certification is overstating it.

Can I change coaches?

Yes. Matching is a recommendation, not an assignment for life. You can request a different coach at any point.

Does Fresh Chapter work outside the United States?

Yes — the platform supports multiple languages and timezones, and coaches list the regions and languages they serve. Crisis numbers such as 988 and 911 are US-specific; local equivalents apply elsewhere.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Do not wait for a coaching session. In the US call or text 988, or 911 for an immediate emergency. Elsewhere, use your local emergency number or the IASP crisis-centre directory.

Next steps

If you are weighing it up: read a few articles in the area you are struggling with, then get matched at /join and take one session. One hour with someone who does this every day usually beats another month of figuring it out alone.
